A farmhouse that moved
For centuries the Eggerhaus stood at the foot of the Grasberg as “Egger obs Moos”. In 1995 it was due to make way for a new building. Volunteers measured it beam by beam, took it down and rebuilt it faithfully at Am Wiesenhof by 2003 – almost 20,000 hours of unpaid work.
Today the house, with its parlour, black kitchen, upper parlour and furniture around 300 years old, shows how people lived and worked in the Salzkammergut. The Eggerstadl barn and the granary complete the site.

Our story
The Eggerhaus is one of the region's defining historic farmsteads and stands for the rural way of building and living in past centuries. As a four-sided farmstead it combined living, working and storage and was the centre of a working farm.
Over generations the property was extended and adapted without losing its character. Today it is a museum and cultural venue that brings history, craft and everyday rural life within reach.

Our team
The Eggerhaus association runs the house entirely with volunteers. Its tasks: collecting, preserving and developing regional culture, history and craftsmanship, researching it and passing it on.
The association organises guided tours, exhibitions, festivals, workshops and get-togethers – and new members are always welcome.

Where is the Eggerhaus?
Am Wiesenhof 69, 4813 Altmünster am Traunsee, Upper Austria. There is a car park directly opposite and the “Am Wiesenhof” bus stop right by the house. Altmünster centre is about 15 minutes away on foot.
When is the museum open?
From June to September every Sunday from 2 to 5 pm, visits by guided tour only. From October to May, and for groups, by arrangement via kontakt@eggerhaus.at.
How much is admission?
1–2 people € 10, 3–5 people € 20, each additional person € 3. Children and young people up to 14 get in free.
Are guided tours available?
Yes. During opening hours every visit is a guided tour. Groups should book in advance; tours outside opening hours can then be arranged.
Are there regular events?
Yes, throughout the year: the spring opening with palm-bundle making and Easter market, bread baking in the wood-fired oven, music evenings, the Long Night of Museums and the winter solstice. All dates are listed under Events.
