The building
A store set apart from the house
The granary (Troadkasten) is a traditional grain store and played a central role in rural life. Built apart from the main house, it protected grain, food and other supplies from fire, damp and pests.
The move
From the “Vordere Gassen” farm to the Eggerhaus
The Eggerhaus granary comes from the “Vordere Gassen” farm, about three kilometres from the original site of the Eggerhaus. It was taken down in September 2010 and stored behind the house until 2016. In the rebuilt log structure, original wooden pegs hold the parts together; where pegs were missing, Stefan Hobl made new ones by hand. Inside, the bins were re-installed – chests that held different kinds of grain or the harvests of different owners.
Today
Open during events
Today the granary shows historic building methods and the economy of earlier generations, and it is opened during events – in winter it looks especially fine in the snow.
